Erick Villaran - Founder / Creative Director
Hi, Erick here... I grew up in Peru and decided to study marketing and communications because my professors from school of Electrical Engineering broke my heart. I just could never figure out those long equations and there was no motivation and support at the school I went to (URP Lima-Peru).
As I turned 24, I had no clue of what to do with my life.... then looked myself in the mirror and asked many times, what is it that I'm really passionate about, how can I be successful doing what I really love?
In 1995 I moved to Washington DC and discovered there was an Audio Recording career and I loved it... then moved back to Peru and my family helped me build a recording studio which I named EVC. I had such a great time recording bands and some of them even made it in the Radio and MTV. I produced many albums, advertising jingles and corporate projects.
After managing the studio for a couple of years I started thinking I needed better knowledge in how to manage a business, so I took a technical degree in marketing and business management. Those courses really help me organize my business better, personal expenses and even manage my life.
In 2000 the internet was becoming more popular and I realized that audio was just a part of long list of media production tools, so I decided to go to school for video production and while learning how to use the cameras, lights and in the studio... I discovered how much I like photography, motion graphics and animation. Those courses were in the curricula and I felt in love with them.
Within my animation course I learned a software called Flash and I discovered it can also be used for web design, so I wanted to learn more about the subject and went to school (Toulouse Lautrec) for web and graphic design.
After being in school and taking all those courses I felt I was set and ready to start making money doing what I love. I thought I could set my career goals in Peru but the market wasn't giving me opportunities so I decided to move to the United States... and here I am!

What equipment do you use?
For photography my main boxes still are my Canon 5DMkII and my 60D. For video I recently switched to a more cinematic style and I use the Blackmagic Design Cinema Cameras. I have a pretty good selection of Canon lenses, but if you want to find out more click here to see my equipment list.
Where do you buy your equipment?
I mainly shop at B&H Photo & Video, located in New York City . They have a great team and I often go to their website to learn more about video and photography.
Is it possible to do an internship with you?
My contracts are now often outside of Jacksonville and it is difficult for me to allot several weeks of internships to students . However, I often need assistants for my sessions . My invitations are on my Facebook fan page.
Do you accept work outside of Jacksonville?
Most of the work on my website was done outside of Jacksonville . I speak Spanish and English and it’s easy for me to work outside my area. Over the past years, I have had the chance to shoot footage in Savannah GA, Orlando FL, Ocala FL, St. Augustine FL, Amelia Island FL and even overseas in Lima - Peru.
What are the rates for a session?
Every project is unique. For that reason, I want to make my clients customized quotes according to their needs. I do not want to do generic photography in mass production. I hope for each of my projects to be unique. Contact me in the contact section for a quote for your project.
